I think this is the best book I've read this year. It has a lot of very important messages, the most important one being about the racism that is still present in the US. But there are also other lessons we can take out of the book as well,
like when Starr decided to stop her friendship with Hailey because she was being racist.
I loved the relationships Starr has with other characters, like with Chris,
who stuck with her through the hard times she was living
, and with Maya,
who also ended her frindship with Hailey.
I also loved the relationship her family has, how they are all so close to each other,
and even how they took in DeVante, who became part of their family as well
. If there is a book that really deserves 5 stars, it is this one.
