Gallant by V.E. Schwab

5.0

This was a marvel to read! Schwab’s attention to detail really pulls you into the story and I found myself getting completely lost in the book whilst reading. Every sentence feels relevant and carefully structured, every word chosen specifically to create a poetic and intriguing narrative.
A horror without the jump scares, with interesting characters you can’t help but empathise with, this was an easy 5 stars and another Schwab book I will very happily recommend.

I was lucky enough to attend a talk and book signing with Schwab right after finishing the book at Edinburgh Book Festival. She discussed her writing style, how she plans and creates each story and that Gallant in particular took 5 years to write (completely understandable when you consider how well crafted the story feels). I found Schwab charming, eloquent and could easily listen to her talk about her books for hours! Overall both the book and event were a brilliant experience and one that I’ll be thinking about for a long while to come.
