Wrath of the Dragons
by Olivia Rose Darling
adventurous
emotional
This book starts out laying additional foundations of world building that we missed in the first book and giving us a lot of time with Elowyn and Cayden while they work through their personal and relationship issues. Parts I and II don’t have a lot of action. Because we are spending time on the mental and emotional pain of our two MCs, that takes a slower pace and can get a little boring at times. We also get a lot of history and info dumping on the gods which can alternately feel almost overwhelming at others. And then just past the halfway mark of the book, Part III - the war- begins and hold on to your seats because nothing about this is slow from here on out.
The battles are gruesome and intense. Our band of five is split up and we are worrying about everyone. If we had glimpses into other POVs besides Elowyn and Cayden, many of these scenes would be on par with the final battles of Kingsom of Ash. And that ending! I did not expect that turn of events. Gut wrenching and devastating but also beautiful. I will be obsessing about this for a long time. Cayden has earned himself a place high on the book boyfriend list here, rivaling the devotion and depth of Luther Corbois.
Part III by itself is worth five stars, but taken as a whole this is still very good and I am totally invested in this series. I can’t wait to see where we go from here!
