A Soul to Keep by Opal Reyne

4.0

I have many thoughts.....

I enjoy how unique and bold this is. The characters and their dynamic really do come together so well. They both put in the work in this relationship. I love Orpheus' desperate struggle to stay soft against his very rough and violent nature, especially when contrasted with Reia trying to be tough and strong and not being afforded those vulnerable human emotions her whole life.

My main critique is how choppy this book is, it's basically 4 stories in one and they jump between them with little setup. It doesn't feel like one big satisfying arc because of this. There's a section in the middle where we drop this book to set up the next book. Each smaller arc is fairly good, but they don't come together and they aren't cohesive. I'm excited for the next book but I wish it hadn't taken so much time out of this one....

This is just a petty gripe as a side note: shut up about menstruation, shut up about virginity, shut up about pregnancy, and certainly shut up with the seemingly endless description of genitalia. The way those topics were written gave me a major ick and I'm saying that as someone who sought out a monsterfucker book

It's still a 4 star for me despite the parts I disliked and that's because of the heart put in the core of the relationship. I can almost ignore everything else because that is so captivating
