this had some fun world building with the systems of magic and i liked the slow burn of hulda and merritt's relationship. hogwood was also a great villain and my only complaint is that i wish his storyline intertwined with the main storyline earlier to better kickstart the tension his presence brings. that said, this was delightful enough a read that ive already started book 2!
