A Fragile Enchantment by Allison Saft
4.25
as a clumsy chronically ill/disabled girlie, i have never felt quite as seen as i did with dear niamh. and this really was just a delight from beginning to end! the romance feels earned and sweet and it’s the perfect backbone. the side characters are all incredibly vibrant and real, making the overall tapestry of the story better for it. the politicking matters, which i appreciated, because that’s half the fun of regency stories for me. the magic isn’t grand or sweeping, but the small ways it exists in the story are excellent - it feels closer to magical realism than straight up fantasy and i loved how grounded it all felt even though i love a good 6th level fireball spell, y’know?
i went into this expecting to enjoy it because it was beloved by people i trust, but i didn’t expect this book to make me giddy or giggly or feel like i just ate the most delicious cheesecake after a really, really good day. This book is the equivalent of lying on your stomach on your bed with your feet in the air behind you, kicking them and smiling in the sunshine while you talk to your bestie on the phone. i cannot recommend this enough! please read this it’s so fun and it’s actually really, really good chronic illness/disability rep imo.
