Finn Family Moomintroll by Tove Jansson

4.0

My favourite of the Moomin books. The Hobgoblin's Hat has some scary effects, but all ends well for everyone. What moved me then and still does now is the plight of the Snorkmaiden and its resolution, which I won't spoil for you here.

In these politically correct times, it's also good to see a male Hemulen wearing a dress.

Great for children to read because it's more concerned with kindness, childhood and family than empowerment and sexualisation, and it isn't old-fashioned (Moominpappa has a radio and tunes in American dance music). The illustratins are also very good, and I remember them fondly.
