Maame by Jessica George

I found the relationship between Maddie and her mother rather interesting. It was clearly dysfunctional and toxic to Maddie in the long run, but in today’s age of cancel culture, this book went the other route….one of tolerance, acceptance, and making the best of what you have. I’m not saying either is best. Actually, I think Maddie likely would do better without her mom, who clearly had many flaws. The book started out great, but got a little slow towards the end.
