I absolutely loved the AI narrator. Robin Sloane is seemingly effortlessly clever and it makes for an enchanting read. I felt an underlying uneasiness for our character throughout the book, which was anxiety inducing but also enchanting. I loved the eccentric combination of fantasy/science fiction elements in this future world where beavers and reeds hold the most complex technology, as if the world has gone back to its roots in the presence of humanity's failure. We are left to ask: What happens next?

The ballistic shock of education, which, at its best, provides the realization: life can be different. It does not all need to be cruel effort.
