This book was not what I expected - I expected a cohesive novel; this gave me vignettes. That was fine, it made it easier to pick up and set down throughout the bus ride as my friends wanted to talk or I wanted to nap or whatever. Some of the stories were absolutely incredible and very moving, and some I felt I had to trudge through. However, the preface of the book explained that he was my age when he wrote most of these stories, and he wrote far better stories than I would be able to right now. It was okay, and I'll definitely be checking out some of his later work.
