The infamous tale of the naive newbie chasing an NYC career who ends up working for the taskmaster fashion magazine boss from hell. Everyone’s rich or trying to be, snobby or a brown-noser, clawing up the corporate ladder or perched snootily at the top. Everyone’s definitely thin and trying to stay that way.

With how thirsty the protagonist/narrator is for this dReAm JoB, it’s hard to muster sympathy when it costs her her relationships, and the borderline cheating subplot just tips her scale into straight up irritating. Basically takes her a year and 400-odd pages to stop being a doormat.

It’s well written but the author’s copious fashion and makeup knowledge drops just become tedious towards the end.

The (pretty, young, white female) friend getting off easy for her violent DUI crash in a country where black and brown people are jailed for years over petty crimes was the cherry on top of this pretentious sundae lol.

Tales like this just don’t hit the same in the capitalist hell we’re currently living in. NYC dream life or not, could never be me. Your one wild and precious life is WAY too short for this shxt.
