I spent a lot of my childhood listening to my dad's copy of Jeff Wayne's fantastic musical adaptation of War of the Worlds. I've also seen the movies many, many times. So, I was pleasantly surprised to find that reading the book still offered a fresh story and new insight into the Martian invasion. The only complaint I had was with the chapters where the narrator relates what his brother later told him. This is meant to provide a larger view of what has been going on, however I feel the episode took me out of the story that was, otherwise, personal and dire.
