Turtles All the Way Down by John Green
3.0

This book came highly recommended to me by basically everyone I talked to who had read it. And after reading it, it's occurred to me that I know a lot of neuro-atypical people, which isn't a bad thing it's just what it is, and I'm sure they would identify themselves as such as well.

I've seen a lot of reviews praising this book for mental illness representation. And also a few people commenting that there should be a content warning for self harm. And I agree with both of those. Aside from that I found it kind of mediocre? I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it. It was fine, and it was interesting, and I more or less enjoyed it, but I wouldn't read it again, and I probably wouldn't actively recommend it to anyone.

I think John Green is good at giving characters specific .. tics? It reminds me of that scene from "Good Will Hunting".. about how everyone has these little imperfections, little idiosyncrasies? It anchors the character, but then when I get to the end of the book I feel like.. I focused too much on the idiosyncrasy the author gave me which tricked me into thinking I "knew" them, but I didn't really get to know the character enough to identify with them.
