I really wanted to like this book. I couldn't get into it. The myriad of characters and magical levels in their world was confusing and irritating.
The writing was pretty simplistic, too and the scenes that tried to be shocking or erotic were just annoying.
I was surprised by Charles de Lint's supportive comment on the front cover stating how much he liked this novel. Then I read the acknowledgments and saw how this author and he were in the same writing group. He shouldn't just lend his considerable reputation to anyone, even if they are friends.
