Brida by Paulo Coelho
3.0

Similar to others of Coelho’s, Brida is about a young person on a journey of enlightenment. In this case, she is in search of her magical Gift and her soulmate.

Unlike others of Coelho’s, this was not a novel I found particularly spellbinding. The pieces of the story were engaging in themselves, but the pacing was all over the place; in parts, so slow, I found myself putting the book aside for days at a time. On the other hand, the climax of the story whizzed past, without exploring the characters’ feelings as deeply as I’d become accustomed to in the rather less exciting moments.

Overall, I give this 3 stars because the writing is always beautiful in a Coelho novel, an I did find many parts of the story and traditions of this particular type of witchcraft to be quite interesting.

I wonder how the ending would differ if it were written today.
