To Say Nothing of the Dog
by Connie Willis
Delightful. Fun. Lots of snide remarks about Victorian taste that a modern reader can't help but agree with.
And the dog, of course, is a charming bulldog. You just fall for him. And the cat, too, really.
The characters are well drawn, the plot convoluted, and though I got quite frustrated with the characters for not figuring out things I'd figured out chapters ago, well, I did so like them and feel for them!
