As far as romantic YA novel goes, it is not the best I've read, but definitely a fast read and entertaining, sort of like a good book for the beach. The main couple is cute, although the beginning of their relationship seems to have happened too fast and was not that very well-developed, and the ending seemed rather abrupt to me. A bit (well, a lot) overly cheesy for my taste, but still a good read to pass the time. Definitely very romantic if you like cheesy romances.
It reminded me a lot of the Twilight series: the "deep" love the couple were talking about seemed actually based more on physical attraction than anything else (hence my comment above about the relationship not being well-developed in the book). Jax, the male lead, was borderly obsessed with Sadie, and I think Sadie for being so "mature for her age" as the author kept reminding us had an unhealthy reaction to the whole relationship.
I guess my point is that this novel is not meant to be read to learn anything deep or be taught something about relationships, rather is just a somewhat amusing way to pass the time if you like romances and don't mind very cheesy lines (such as "you are my air," repeated several times across the book and the reason why the book is called "Breathe"). For the content I would give it 2 starts, but since I had a relative good time reading it 3 seems appropriate.
