teema 's review for:

Angry God by L.J. Shen
3.0

**Edit: After having some to think about this book I am bringing my rating from a 4 down to a 3.

I was so excited for Vaughns story ever since his very first appearance in Pretty Reckless, all I wanted was Vaughn story. This might be a bit controversial but I believe that Vaughn deserved so much better than Lenora.

I've had sometime to think about this book now after finishing it and the first thing I wanted to note is that the chemistry between Vaughn and Lenora felt flat and a little nonexistent. You only got the love and connection we wanted in the last quarter of the book, which sucked because I wanted that chemistry and love from the beginning. Especially since Vaughn did state that it was always Lenora. So why didn't we see more of a connection?

Something that made me so ANGRY was:
Spoiler Another thing I had some time to digest on was the fact that Lenora physically restrained Vaughn and made him watch whilst she let another guy go down on her. I mean wtf? I was shocked she'd do something like that only because she did it as retaliation for when Vaughn got a public bj when they were not together, barely on speaking terms. Yet when they were together, she made him watch that, is that not considered cheating? Because thats what it felt to me. Poor Vaughn had to witness that and his expression really broke me. He deserved better. So much better than that. Especially after everything he's been through, he deserved someone who would never do something like that when they were together. This scene made me hate Lenora so much and I actually did not start liking her until near the end of the book. I kind of had a feeling I wouldn't like Lenora when meeting her in Broken Knight and I was right, I did not like her until near the end of the book.

Although the major plot points were predictable, it did not really hinder my enjoyment of this book that much. I loved Vaughn to death from the beginning of this series and he did not disappoint. Even though some of his thoughts were well mean and fucked up I shouldn't expect anything less from Vicious's child now should I! Lenora on the other hand was a different story, she was one of those characters where the more i read the more i get to know then the more i like. It took me sometime to actually like her and that really didn't happen until near the end of the book.

We got to see Emilia and Vicious in this book too and I loved and lived for every minute of it. We got to see Vicious being a protective father and my heart melted. I love Vaughn's dynamic with his parents and especially how protective he is of his mother.
Spoiler He was put in less than ideal situations, horrific and traumatic positions where he did what he had to so that his mother remained safe. And this just reminded me of what Vicious did for his own mother. He murdered to avenge his mother. Vaughn would do whatever he had to. To keep his mother safe. His lover for her was beautiful and special.

I'm not sure if what i'm about to state next is considered to be spoilers but just to be safe i'll classify it as such:
Spoiler One thing I would have loved to see more of, was the friendship dynamic between Vaughn, Knight and Hunter. Yes we did see some, but i love those boys and I'm greedy for more and would have loved more interactions and more dialogue between them all. Also I do not think Daria or Pen were in this book, which was sad cause I would not have minded to see those two again. Actually thinking about it, we didn't really see much of anyone other than Vaughn's parents, Jaime, Knight and Hunter. I guess that might be because the majority of the book was set in high school and then the Arts school.

All in all, I enjoyed this book, even though the ending felt a bit rushed. I would have loved to see an epilogue with all the characters from the previous books too, all together. But it's fine. the epilogue we did get was so sweet. Since this was the last time we would see the ASH characters again I really thought we would see them all together again in the end. Especially, Daria, Pen and Knight, Luna as parents. I feel like that was a missed opportunity. I just wanted to see them all together in one room.
