Sarah has strict rules when it comes to meeting men: one night only with a min and a swift boot to the buttocks in the morning. However, when she humps and dumps irishman Declan Murphy, and then meets him again a few days later over 3,000 miles away, and at her best friends wedding, her rules seem to be the ones getting booted out the door.
I enjoyed this book immensely. It stands out due to the light-hearted feel, the fast paced writing, and the witty main character. The chemistry between Sarah and Declan was undeniable, cradling equal amounts of quips and attentiveness.
Sarah as a whole is a compelling character, with.a thought process that describes the fight or flight process when encountering long term romance, without saying the words fight or flight. Her friendships are satisfying for the reader to behold, and the natural, sisterly love between Sarah and her best friend Annie is enviable.
The plot itself was okay. I think looking back, lots of mini storylines seemed to fizzle out, choosing to focus on the main romance instead. However, I'm. a reader who doesn't like unanswered questions, and I feel that I have many when I consider the plot.
Additionally, I'm not sure the reasons behind Sarah's aversion to potential love interests are totally justifiable for the angst she causes herself, But - and I'm sorry to once again mention this - the connection between Sarah and Declan means that I don't really care about the backstory of her pain. That makes me sound a bit tyrant-y, but it's true. Walsh writes romance just as it should be: full of humour, passion, and care.
Thank you to the publisher, Bookouture, and to NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
