You can learn a lot about a person through their dreams. It’s your subconscious, split open and bare for all to see.

Dark, creepy, spectacularly scary with a nightmarish touch that stays with you long after the brilliant end, [b:Veiled|31284240|Veiled|Karina Halle|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1469720180s/31284240.jpg|23580630] is the best book I’ve read by [a:Karina Halle|4785031|Karina Halle|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1394491989p2/4785031.jpg].

If you’ve already read the experiments of terror series, then you probably have a very good idea about the female protagonist of this book and some of the secondary characters. But if you’re like me have no idea about that series, don’t worry yourself, you will find no trouble understanding the story because as much as it is a spin off, it can also be considered and read as a standalone supernatural story with a touch of romance.

It’s funny how your mind can be open, expansive, to almost anything but when there’s a hard limit, something your brain can’t make that extra leap for, it all shuts down

The book follows the story of eighteen years old Ada Palomino who lives only with her father in Portland, Oregon after losing her mother two years ago and watching her older sister move out of the house to go live with her husband in Seattle. Ada wants nothing more than move on with her life and lives her life as normal as it could be but the truth is that Ada is no normal girl because she has the ability of seeing dead people, demons and dark supernatural creatures. And then everything gets complicated when she starts having the same dream every single night about some mysterious boy who after a while starts appearing to her in real life too.

I don’t want to reveal anything more about the plot; it is really better to go in the story totally blind because you will experience one of the best horror books in a very long time. You will flinch, gasp, close your eyes in horror, lose your mind with anticipation, and scream bloody murder while clutching your heart. Take it from me, this book is terrifying and tense every step of the way and if you are like me glutton for punishment, you will love every second of it.

I’m pretty sure there are some things in the dark that we’re not meant to see

Even though the story focuses mainly on Ada and her supernatural journey or adventure in the dark side of her life, [a:Karina Halle|4785031|Karina Halle|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1394491989p2/4785031.jpg] still manages to insert a touch of humanity in the story making it a book you can connect to, feel yourself in its words and be touched by the authentic way she portrays Ada, a girl still grieving the loss of her mother and trying to find a way to have the life she wants amid all the darkness that surrounds her life from every corner. In its core, this is a story about a girl trying to find her what despite the hardships life is throwing her way; I think this is a story we can all see ourselves in it, one way or another.

“I may be immortal but I am still a man with blood pumping in my veins.” He moves an inch closer. My skin heats up. Every nerve is burning. “You are off-limits. You are forbidden to me. And all it does is make me want you more.”

To be honest I was afraid that the romance will the book for me but thank God, the relationship between Ad and Jay ( the man she sees in her dreams) was a slow burn and not anything instant. The chemistry was there from the beginning and there’s fire between them both that makes the intensity of their dynamic comes as electrifying and sexy. Their feelings for each other developed in a believable ad convincing way and progressed naturally in a way that’s hard to find in any supernatural or paranormal book.
