4.75⭐️/5
I had to think on this one for a minute bc holy shit.
I really enjoyed this book. M.L. Wang writes with such beautiful detail and thoroughness that really is a whole other character in and of itself.
*The plot 10/10
This story was so unique, while also branching off of the Avatar the Last Airbender universe. (Wish there was a Zuko x Katana romance, but I guess that’s what Robyn and Misaki kind of were?)
Okay here’s where the main spoilers are going to occur:
What the FUCK, Wang? Not Mamoru😭 not my tiny little baby Mamoru!!!!!! HOWEVER- I do like when a main character dies. It really adds more depth and complexity to the characters and the story if written by a great author; and that’s exactly what has happened here.
At the beginning of the book, before you even start on the first page, there is a note. That note says that M.L. Wang will not be continuing any books taking place in the Duna universe (for the foreseeable future). I do not appreciate the god damn cliffhanger. What about the demon going after Robyn that’s building an army of strong children?? What about the stupid Empire? What about the other characters???? Girl I was so mad at the end of the book for that. That’s were it lost the .25⭐️😪
Characters 10/10
God DAYUM the characters are so complex and I love each and every one of them like I’m their mother. I despised Takeru from the bottom of my SOUL. But girl…. I warmed up to him😭 Talk about complex- holy shit!!! Misaki is my absolute favorite. God she’s so badass, I want to be her when I grow up💗 Mamoru, Setsuko, everyone is my favorite in their own little ways. And that’s what makes this story whole.
Overall (if you couldn’t tell), I absolutely love love LOVE this book. I thought it would be overhyped because of TikTok, but yall were not playin! Thank you, M.L. Wang for that masterpiece. I will be reading every single piece of literature you bless us🧎🏼♀️🫶🏻
