The Fire Next Time
by James Baldwin
No one writes like Baldwin. It’s hard to fathom how he so patiently explained everything to us IN THE ‘60’S and yet here we are today. Still broken. Still blind. You may be familiar with the quote “I imagine one of the reasons people cling to their hates so stubbornly is because they sense, once hate is gone, they will be forced to deal with pain.”
It’s a good one. Lots of applications. But now that I’ve read The Fire Next Time, I prefer, “Do I really want to be integrated into a burning house?”
