Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman

surprise i actually Have been reading just not finishing anything lol!!! Anyway ok first of all i read the first edition of it, which is only ~15 poems (in later editions he kept adding more on and there ended up being like 200?). my favorite of them by far was "the sleepers," really cool imagery and narrative shift, and i personally found it unique from the other poems idk. song of myself is also fun and has its good moments but my god it is SO LONG and walt heres just really on his transcendentalist schtick so a lot of the content in a lot of these poems is like "We Are All One We All Come From The Earth Mother I Am You Everyone Is Beautiful America." like its fine when ur reading song of myself bc thats what that poem is about but a lot of the shorter ones later in the book are just reiterating that kind of idea without being as interesting as song of myself. like ive read poems of his that werent in this first collection that i like waaaay more lmao. giving 4 stars still bc i really loved the sleepers and my favorite parts of song of myself but like a lot of the other ones i was kind of indifferent to. much to think about. oh also shoutout to mr whitman for writing the funniest ever descriptions of busting a nut
