Nixonland: The Rise of a President and the Fracturing of America by Rick Perlstein

5.0

It's dense, but if you like reading meaty books about politics this book is the one for you. The stories are not only well researched and entertaining, but they are also a bit too relevant for comfort. All the usual suspects are here: grievance politics? Check. Rampant police overreach? Check. Manipulating people's racial ignorance? Check. Corruption. Man, if you think Donald Trump is the most corrupt president ever, wait until you read what shit Nixon was into. Using polarization to win elections? Using divisiveness to make your citizens hate each other? Check and check.
