Souls Write Eyes Sing: the shortened collection by Abbas A.

5.0

I have a mixed-feelings relationship with poetry. I’ve rarely intentionally searched for poems to read, but I’m often faced with them when friends share with me pieces or well… when someone sends me a poetry book to review.

Most poems I’ve read in life feel just like pretty words to me because I’m not able to understand their full hidden meaning. I wish all poems came with a little author’s explanation at the end because I don’t do well with abstract.

But what Abbas delivered us was poetry with beautiful words AND messages that reach your heart. And I’m certain the way they reach my heart will not be the same way they will reach yours - and I guess that’s the clichê of poetry but omfg I finally UNDERSTAND IT AND IT’s BEAUTIFUL.

Maybe I didn’t get to these poems’ full meaning, even after re-reading each one many times. But the messages I still got from them were messages I had never seen externalized by anyone.

They were messages I had only seen in my head, never coming from someone else. And while I read this beautiful collection of poems, I felt understood and reassured. My troubles went away.

It’s hard to put into words what Abbas’ poetry made me feel. But I hope this review has convinced you to grab this one. ❤️

P.S- gender neutral poetry. every poem can be your favorite poem. what else can you ask for?
