The Violin Conspiracy by Brendan Slocumb
4.0
I really enjoyed this, if not for the actual robbery storyline (a little predictable) but to read about the experiences of a Black classical violinist. It made me think about how many times I've been to an orchestra performance (VSO and TSO, I'm looking at you) and I can't recall ever seeing a Black musician. The author's note at the end indicates that all of the racist experiences in the story were based on real events for him. However, it's clear his talent and love for the art...the music, the instrument and the audience, inspires him beyond the racism and bigotry.
