I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy

4.0

Did I shed a few tears reading through Jennette's mental health journey? Absolutely. This book was intense and sad in many ways. It is great that Jennette was able to break away from the entertainment industry and focus on herself. It is such a huge challenge to overcome to look at your childhood, the person you thought loved you the most in the world, and know that love was killing you. I hope she continues to work on her mental health and finds peace in herself, her body, and her career.

One thing that I struggled with throughout this book was the voice of her child self didn't seem to grow until much later in the book. While I understand that it was necessary for the beginning due to her age, even through being a teenager, the voice still read as 6 years old. I understand that when a person's growth has been stifled, they struggle to gain strength in their voice as they age but it was a part of the book that I struggled to connect with.
