I had no idea about the events this book is based on, but I’m glad I do now. The book wonderfully evokes a 17th century Rome and the reality of life for women in the city. It’s starts off as detective story but becomes more interesting as the true story emerges. It’s well written, moves at pace and if some of the plot lines are a tad predictable, there’s a good twist at the end
