Butterflies in November by Auður Ava Ólafsdóttir
3.0

A characteristically bizarre novel from the inventive Icelandic writer, and one that I enjoyed very much. I've learned to expect strange coincidences, sudden life-altering vacations, and introspective madness from Ólafsdóttir's other work, and Butterflies is no different. There's much here about the confluence of desire, aging, and the needs of children, but also the madcap features of a fantastically wealthy roadtrip. If you've enjoyed her other novels, this is one for you! I would, however, perhaps start with Ólafsdóttir's [b:Hotel Silence|38324273|Hotel Silence|Auður Ava Ólafsdóttir|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1517522149s/38324273.jpg|53470507] first, as it may be more hospitable to new readers.
