Chew, Vol. 1: Taster's Choice by Rob Guillory, John Layman
3.0

A weird story about a man who can take a bite out of something and relive memories of it. Meaning if he eats a hamburger he remembers the moments the cow got slaughtered. Good times. Same applies to humans...so eat up!

And this detective Chu gets caught up in a special police division to hunt down cold cases by eating people's flesh to find out what the heck happen to them. The absurdity in itself is funny and there are some great moments. It's also nice to have a main character who looks a bit like a regular dude but does some amazing things.

But it also has a TON of unnecessary explanation and dialogue at times that made it a bit of a slog to get through. I did like the last issue a lot though as it picks up big time to give it a extra boost that it really needed. Since before that felt like more of "case by the issue" type book.

Overall a solid start, I might read more down the line. A 3 out of 5.
