A special thank you to Gallery, Threshold, Pocket Books and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. 3.5 Stars

The Burning Girl, a novella and second (The Whispers #2) of three stories, spanning 30 years in the life of Eloise Montgomery, who discovers her amazing gift in the wake of tragedy delivered, by talented Lisa Unger.

The Burning Girl takes place ten years after The Whispers (#1) and Eloise is learning to control her psychic abilities with the help of Agatha, an experienced psychic. Agatha is questioning Eloise about her talents and gift and begins her genealogical search.

Eloise wants to use her gift to help others; however, she hears tons of whispers, voices and visions and she has to find balance in her life. Oh, and her granddaughter Finley is having visions. Eloise's daughter is married with two children, but has moved away, unable to deal with her mother's visions.

Agatha claims that Eloise's late husband, Alfie, sent her to help Eloise deal with her gift and talents, so it will not consume her. There is this girl, who is violent and angry and the smell of smoke lets her know when she's near. Eloise follows this young girl, The Burning Girl which is full of rage and evil and she wants to help her.

She teams up with private detective Ray to help solve the case as he is a retired sheriff and they have worked together to help find missing persons, plus they also have begun a relationship. Ray and Eloise are working on a case of a missing wife and dealing with the mystery surrounding the burning girl.

I read The Burning Girl, prior to The Whispers. I probably should have read them in order, as now everything falls into place. I enjoyed The Whispers #1, more--learning the background of this intriguing family, Eloise's heartbreaking story, and her newfound talent.

I also loved the tidbit of upcoming, Crazy Love You, included at the end, coming Feb 2015--sounds yummy!

Looks like we have to wait until the next installment for Whispers #3, with The Three Sisters (#3) coming Jan 2015! I am in for both!
