The Book of the Unnamed Midwife by Meg Elison

5.0

A beautifully told tale of how women, and one in particular, might survive a post-apocalyptic world in which they are severely outnumbered by men and the dangers of childbirth are nearly always life-threatening. Elison exquisitely imagines the approaches different women would take and the importance birth control would play in that scenario. While I'm more of an optimist in terms of human nature than this book's narrative allows, I was struck by how hope crept creeping in no matter the surrounding starkness, which takes great skill to balance. Well done.
