In the Tall Grass
by Joe Hill, Stephen King
This is one of those times when my taste in horror really affects how I connect with the story. I was all in for the creepy, strange bits. Grossed out by others bits -- which pulls me out of the story a little. Then completely thrown out of the story by the sad bits. Terrible things can happen in horror stories and still keep me creeped out, but if it gets me utterly sad, then all sense of fear is gone.
