Follow the River
by CE Ricci
Have you ever read a book where you are looking at the % read at the bottom of your kindle screen and just wanted to weep as you know there's not enough % left to fit in everything you want to know? Well this is one of those books. Going in I knew it was a duet but I hadn't quite factored in how much I would fall for these characters. Honestly, Follow the River left me emotionally exhausted in a good way. I felt everything reading this heated MM enemies to lovers romance. It was so beautifully written and so powerful. This is quite a journey you take with River and Rain.
I don't know even how to describe this story. It is dark and angsty at times and funny and sweet at others. Rain is a survivor of childhood trauma and is trying to come to terms with his identity and sexuality. River is just adorable. I fell for him so hard. He is cheeky, caring, emotional, patient and all with a strong sense of self and a hint of dominance. These two battle for control while also exploring submission and trust.
Their story (so far) is beautifully told and emotionally wrought. It is more than enemies to lovers. It is deep and moving and difficult to read at times. I am so invested in these two. I haven't been able to put the book down.
