The Librarians and The Lost Lamp by Greg Cox

4.0

I never saw the TV series "The Librarians" but this book made me want to go find it and binge watch it. If you are familiar with the series, you are familiar with the basic plot. The Librarians are a group of people responsible for finding and guarding magical artifacts, in order to protect humanity from itself. It is not necessary to have watched the show in order to enjoy/understand the story.

This particular book chronicles the search for Aladdin's lamp (which really did exist, BTW) and tells the story of two searches, one in present day and one in the past. The chapters alternate between present day and past, as in both stories the librarians race to find the lamp before the bad guys get it (and of course the bad guys want to use it for bad purposes - power/money/control/etc.).

The pacing of the book was excellent, it kept me riveted. I enjoyed all the characters and their interactions. I can't wait to read the next one, and also, you know, watch the TV show.
