The Trial by Franz Kafka
2.0

I know it's a cult classic, but this really wasn't for me. I didn't enjoy the dream-like narrative structure. I think it is better read it as an indictment of totalitarianism than a statement on the futility of life but I found the plot frankly irritating. You very quickly see how it is all going to play out and then it just goes on and on and on. It is considered to be an unfinished novel, so I will give it some leeway, but to be honest I was thankful it wasn't longer.
