Persuasion by Jane Austen
3.0

This was not a good book to read after Northanger Abby. NA was so easy to read, so fun and fast-paced (for an Austen novel, anyway) and Persuasion was loaded with description and exposition about who did what and where they were from instead of giving it to us in dialogue. I was lost for the majority of this book as to who was who, who was where and what was going on. After I read some spark notes (gasp) I finally got a grasp on the basics, but I really found it tough to follow on audiobook. Maybe it would have been easier if I read it in print.

One plus to this book, though, was that I loved that Austen didn’t just describe from a distant narrator’s perspective how the lovers finally got together at the end, as she does in most of her novels. She actually gives us some of the dialogue between them as they hash out the past and the present.
