i’m obsessed with this book. to begin, monique is entirely relatable and a very compelling narrator. seeing the way she changed throughout the time spent with evelyn was so satisfying to read, she is influenced by evelyn and i adore the way they work together. i personally interpreted evelyn’s perspective as being written through monique’s novel, in that case, her writing style is eloquent and direct. it does a wonderful job of portraying evelyn’s way of thinking, both her decision making in the past and her reflections in the present. evelyn is incredibly interesting and a very compelling character. she is a morally grey woman who uses her body as a type of currency in hollywood, yet despite mourning the things her mindset lost her, she doesn’t regret it at all. one of my favorite things about this book is the slight difference in writing style between monique’s story as a journalist and the retelling of evelyn’s. i really enjoyed this story.
