reading this is like starting out in the dead of winter and then slowly noticing that the days are getting longer and spring is just around the corner and suddenly it is spring and you haven't yet forgotten the cold winter with bare trees so every sunny day, every bit of warmth, and every new sprout is just so hopeful. definitely a comfort read.
the other reviews are also right, this book is entirely character-driven which I've been wary of in the past but is not a problem with this book because the characters immediately impress on you and you really come to love them.
(about the ending: I will admit it is a bit too neat so rather than a 5/5, maybe a 4.7)
