2.5 honestly. I don’t listen to audiobooks very often so part of me felt like I was transported back to being a kid watching someone read a book to me on PBS, which was cool. But to me, the narrators voice sounded too much like Microsoft Siri and that kind of pulled me back to reality. I’m a big video game person so I was really excited for that to be the backdrop of the story. I really appreciate how much research Ali Hazelwood did to write the video game industry and jobs within it accurately. I don’t think I could ever be mad at someone going so deep into the weeds because they want to accurate. This one just didn’t suck me in. I’m not sure if it was the characters or the storyline or what but I wasn’t really drawn to this story. Even if I am a sucker for the “he falls first” trope. And I will always appreciate that in every one of her books. Ali Hazelwood makes sure there’s at least brief discussion about birth control and safe sex. It’s good modeling.
