Unsheltered by Barbara Kingsolver

Another superb book from Ms Kingsolver. The two stories - one set around the time of the 2016 Presidential election, the other during President Grant’s tenure - are linked by a house and two dissimilar teaching careers, as well as by Mr Trump’s claim that he could gun someone down in the street and still have people vote for him.

It’s a great novel filled with wonderful characters and situations familiar to us all. Kingsolver’s assured and knowledgeable prose - I keep making comparisons in my head to the work of A. S. Byatt - keep us in the world of the story for far longer than you might be prepared for.
