At some point, the whole bad guy trope "we're not that different, you and I" argument really does not hold water.
Even if on paper the hero and the villain's suffering can be on equal par, what makes them different is, of course, the actions they make despite or because of that suffering.
But thanks to our bad guy being CENTURIES of jaded and removed from humanity & emotions, he really REALLY can't comprehend why our main character doesn't sympathize with her plight. What's jarring is that especially after they both peak into each others' tragic backstories, one accepts the negativity that defined her, and the other almost literally festers in his juices of resentment to the point where he's less of a pickle and more like a rotten fruit hiding under the cupboard.

So with that particular chapter of the narrative in the ongoing relationship between unknown supernatural horror and an unlucky Japanese girl brimming with magic, what's next?
Time to stop being a duo, and becoming part of a community.
IT'S HOGWARTS TIME!
