Earl of Kinross by Meara Platt

4.0

Marcus Brayden a general in the war against Napoleon comes home a hero and is named the Earl of Kinross. His return is just in time when he finds that his friend Hugh LeBrecque has been accused of murder and is sailing around trying to stay alive, Hugh's father is under house arrest for a false charge of treason and his sister Lara is the only one who can try to save her family.
She sneaks into Marcus' house to tell him what is happening to her family and ask his help. While they have know each other growing up I think this is a case of love at first sight. Marcus immediately agrees to help her family but he is most concerned with keeping her safe.
Ad the two of them work to free her father and brother, they come under attack and Marcus believes that the best way to keep Lara safe is to marry her but before they can get a special license, he is called back to war.
The love between them is shining through the whole book and Lara's dedication to her family and need to clear their name shows how strong a woman she is. Despite taking time out to fight Napoleon, they are able to overturn the false accusations against her father and brother and live happily ever after.
