As Parini Shroff said herself, she wanted to tell a story about the original bandit queen and the reality of the women she saw in India without making it too heavy of a read. The story contains plenty of social commentary and male characters doing the most vile shit (and initially getting away with it for the most part) But it is NEVER explained away or romanticized. I absolutely loved Geeta as a character and the sisterhood she experienced with the other women in her loan group as they find themselves growing as people and coming to each others aid. The last 10 percent of the book almost read like a sitcom despite the dangerous situation they were in. This book was well paced, dark well-balanced with light and funny moments and definitely a story I will be picking up in a few years for a re-read.
