Paladin's Grace by T. Kingfisher

mysterious medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: No

I was honestly let down by this book considering how well-reviewed it is. First off, I really could not stand Grace; I found her annoying and immature. She came across as very middle school-esque and whiny, and the attempts to make her a woman with a storied, sympathetic past ultimately fell flat for me. I found Stephen's character development to be rather lacking as well, though I found him more dull than annoying.

I was also disappointed by how repetitive and uninspired the writing style was. I'll admit that the book was funny at times, I'll give the author that, but it really felt like the writing level was more on par with YA than adult fiction. I don't say that to disparage to YA, by the way, it's just that when I'm reading a book geared toward an audit audience I have higher expectations for the writing. This didn't meet that mark.

The mystery was interesting enough to keep me going, though I almost DNF'd this a few times.
