4.5

A novel about the transformative power of art and the love of chosen family. The characters feel as though they are breathing through the pages, and each carefully chosen string of words is poetic. Joyful but also sincere and at times poignant. I couldn’t give it 5 stars because on a personal level it didn’t wholly grip me, but to give it any less than 4 and a half would ne a disservice to Winman’s masterful writing.
