If you're looking for a cozy read, this is a nice light read. I loved Maggie and the angels. I loved their friendships and how they cared for her and supported her. I enjoyed Maggie's personal conflicts and it was interesting to learn more about her and what made her tick.
Unfortunately the dialogue and writing wasn't quite working for me. It was hard to stay invested with this one. I enjoyed all of the magical moments in the different realms but it all mostly occured later in the story and then the story ends.
I also disliked the church trips because the angels would go in depth about the history of each church with each visit, and none of this information was relevant to the rest of the story. A history lesson is cool, but I wanted to DNF at this point. I wanted to read a story, not learn about churches. I would have enjoyed less of this and more of the focus placed on Maggie and Phineas, because their moments together really shined, but those scenes were so sparse that I was left unsatisfied.
I was left a little confused with the overall story because honestly, not much happens. Maggie is made to be a key player in cleansing negative energies along a pilgrim's path. But she doesn't actually do much at all? She just seems to follow along to the different churches while all the angels do all of the work. Why is she there? Wouldn't that have been faster without her? Also the conflicts mentioned in the book's summary weren't really much of a conflict. I was expecting something bigger to happen but was left waiting, and then it was all over.
Still, a cozy read with a fun cast of characters, that'll leave you yearning for a delicious cup of chai tea.
