Iron & Embers
by Helen Scheuerer
adventurous
fast-paced
Iron and Embers is the first book in The Ashes of Thezmarr trilogy by Helen Scheuerer. It is an enemies to lovers, forced proximity, slow burn romantasy that will captivate you from the first page.
Wren Embervale is convinced that killing those responsible for the deaths of her best friends and sister is the best form of vengeance. Suffering from a bit of PTSD and terrified to let down her walls and get close to anyone she has lived a life of solitude for the last five years. When Wren is finally offered a place at the coveted Drevenor Alchemy Academy she’s forced out of seclusion. Will she be able to accept her past and move forward?
Iron and Embers picks up five years after the Shadow War and the conclusion of The Legends of Thezmarr series. I always enjoyed the glimpses of Wren and Torj’s relationship we glimmered from The Legends of Thezmarr so getting a series dedicated to the two of them is truly a treat. Wren is a fierce, bad-ass, alchemist who isn’t afraid to speak her mind and Torj is a fearless Warsword of the Realms who is only soft for her. The tension between Wren and Torj is palpable and makes the slow burn absolutely delicious. Filled with banter and both “f*ck it” and “who did this to you?” moments the romantasy lover is surely to love every second of this book. But, not only is banter, tension, and spice lovely– the story line is also *chefs kiss*. Action packed and full of twists and turns I did not see coming, this is a book you definitely don’t want to miss out on!
