This is probably my favorite classic that I have read so far, second only to To Kill a Mockingbird. I did not get overly annoyed at Viktor, and the writing was decently engaging, considering it had no semblance of modern pacing. The story is well known, but not in the original sense, so it was interesting to read the differences of what I knew from Halloween movies and the original source material. It was a little dense at times, but overall I felt it was pretty good. It definitely helped in the beginning that this was required reading, though. If you stick out that first chapter(and the preamble) it will improve tremendously.
