I'm pretty sure I've read every book that Carissa has published now, and this one is by far my favourite. The writing is so so well done, and I loved being back with Mische and Asar. The audiobook only made it better, the dual narration is fantastic. I am already SO EXCITED to read the future duet!!
Mische and Asar are by far my favourite couple in this universe, I adore everything about them. Mische's beautiful personality has stood out to me from book one, and Asar fits with her so perfectly. Carissa is a master of creating complex characters, and I absolutely adored that both Mische and Asar had their own journies to follow.
There's a lot to be said for the romance in this story but what stands out to me more is perfect balance between love, high-stakes, danger and complex ethics. Yes this is a romantasy book, but at it's heart, it's about what it is to be human. This book really shows Carissa's amazing writing skills, and she deserves all the love and attention it's been getting.
Both Songbird and Fallen expand on the lore of this world, and I am SO here for it. I think I would read a dictionary of anything Carissa can dream up about the world - it's so so interesting to me. It feels like each book breathes new life into the universe. The political intrigue and divine battles are so amazingly well done - especially as looking back to earlier books you can really see how this new information fits in.
